Maybe you found this post because you googled “unique maternity photoshoot ideas” and stumbled upon my blog… If so, welcome! And congrats on your little one. At the time of writing this, I have a 10.5 month old baby girl, so it feels like just yesterday that I was in your shoes – feeling super pregnant, excited to meet my baby, nervous, nesting, wondering when my ankles might blow up, and, of course, planning my maternity photos. And also extremely eager to not have to pee every 5 seconds anymore. The heartburn also goes away as soon as the baby exits the body, so there’s that. ANYWAY, I digress.

When you think of maternity photos, you might think of gorgeous gowns, beautiful backdrops, and perfectly posed photos of women that look majestic in their third trimester. These types of photos are great, and I do take them, but, not everyone fits that vibe. Like Victoria, for instance. She’s a bandana & Doc Martens kinda lady. Instead of a beautiful gown on a cliff, we went for a casual stroll through the nursery, frolicked around a pretty field, and then ended the session with a dip in the pool.

If you want unique maternity photoshoot ideas that are more laid back and casual, then ya just gotta think outside the box a bit and go from there. It”s always a collaboration. I love incorporating bits of life that my clients love into their photos, like, shooting at a nursery for example… But it could also look like your fav coffee shop and a walk after, or a stroll around your neighborhood, or a picnic at your favorite beach. It simply doesn’t need to be posey photos in a golden field or whatever. 🙂
