Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a stunning maternity session in Carlsbad, one of the top spots in North County for a photoshoot. With its stunning coastline and scenic cliffs, it’s no wonder that Carlsbad is one of the top locations for maternity photography. For this session, we ventured to the Carlsbad Bluffs, a location that perfectly combines sandy beaches and dramatic ocean views. The golden hour here is magical—soft, warm light enhances the natural beauty of the landscape and creates an ethereal glow, ideal for maternity portraits. If you’re looking for a natural, yet striking backdrop, this area of Carlsbad is an unbeatable choice. The mother-to-be wore a flowing dress that danced in the coastal breeze, adding movement and elegance to the shots.
While Carlsbad is a great spot, there are several other top San Diego spots for a maternity photoshoot. One of my favorites is Swami’s Beach in Encinitas, where the sunsets are unforgettable and the backdrop ranges from cliffs to palm-lined walkways. Another option is the San Dieguito Lagoon, offering lush greenery and a serene atmosphere. If you prefer urban settings, the Balboa Park area provides historic architecture and gardens that lend themselves to both classic and modern maternity photography styles.
