Maternity photos at two locations in San Diego is something I offer and genuinely recommend, and this session with Cassidy and Aiden is a good example of why it works so well.

They came in with a clear vision. Cassidy wanted something earthy and romantic with their truck involved, and then a second location that felt more coastal. Two completely different looks, one session. We started on a trail near the lagoon in Carlsbad as the sun was getting low — tall grasses, bougainvillea in full bloom, that warm golden light hitting everything just right. The truck fit perfectly into the scene, parked in the grass with the sun flaring behind it. It was exactly what she had in mind.

Cassidy and Aiden have been together since high school, over ten years, and it shows in the way they are around each other. He was complimenting her throughout the entire shoot, which made my job easy — she was glowing and relaxed and it came through in every frame.

For the second location we headed to the Carlsbad cliffs. The tide was high so we stayed up on the rocks rather than shooting down at the water, which actually worked in our favor — the cliffs themselves are dramatic and minimal in a way that’s completely different from the lush, warm first location. Same couple, same white skirt, completely different feel. That’s exactly the point of doing two locations.

The reason I love offering this is because it gives the gallery range. Your photos from one location tell part of the story. Two locations tell more of it — different moods, different backdrops, different versions of the same people. For a maternity session especially, when you’re documenting a specific moment in time, that variety is worth it. The logistics are simple since it’s just two people, and the payoff in the gallery is significant.
